The 10.5 mile course begins with a steep ascent up Grasshopper Multi-Use Trail. About 3/4 mile into the race, the two courses split, the 10.5 mile course continuing left on Grasshopper M.U.T. and the 30K turning right onto Squaw Creek Ridge Trail. The 10.5 mile continues to climb, alternating steep sections with level ones.
From the aid station at mile 4 and the turn onto Johnson Camp Trail, it is all downhill or flat from here. Enjoy the 4.8 mile gentle descent and watch the trees grow larger and more lush with every passing switchback.
The final mile is along the Bull Creek Flats Trail and will take you through some of the most magnificent old growth Redwoods in the park. Footing is generally good throughout the course so feel free to stare skyward and admire the 300 foot tall giants along the way.
